My kids love spaghetti, but honestly, I get really sick of eating it week after week. Try making this spaghetti variation, it will make the kids happy and Mom and Dad won't mind so much, either. Be sure and make some bread to go with this and salad is always a good contribution, too.
This serves 12, but I usually split it into two smaller pans and freeze one for a second dinner.
INGREDIENTS:
- 16 ounces of uncooked thin spaghetti
- 1 1/2 pounds of ground beef, turkey or sausage, or a mix of these
- 32 ounces of jarred spaghetti sauce
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup of grated parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp garlic salt
- 8 ounces of shredded cheese (sometimes I use mozzarella, other times I use cheddar, whatever you're in the mood for will work.)
DIRECTIONS:
- Cook pasta according to the package directions to desired doneness.
- Drain the pasta and rinse with hot water.
- Preheat the oven to 350F degrees.
- Brown the meat, breaking it up as you go, and drain. Add the spaghetti sauce and mix well.
- Toss the rinsed pasta with the eggs, parmesan cheese and garlic salt. Place the pasta in the bottom of a 9X13" pan and press it evenly into the bottom of the pan.
- Top the pasta with the meat sauce and sprinkle the shredded cheese on top. Cover the pan and bake for 30 minutes. You may remove the cover for the last 5 minutes, if you wish to brown the cheese a bit.
- Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
