Better late than never, I suppose. I wanted to tell you about my Valentine’s Day. Like I mentioned before, Valentine’s Day is pretty special around here. Even so, Hubby and I decided not to exchange gifts this year, and perhaps you can imagine my frustration when I woke to find this on the bed next to me.
And this on the counter in the bathroom when I went in to brush my teeth.
And this one.
And this one.
And this one.
All in all, I found 14 cards scattered around the house – one for every year that Hubby and I have known each other. And inside each card was a handwritten note about what made each specific year special to him. Basically, I spent all day finding cards, and it was so sweet. Yeah, he’s a real keeper.
But, I felt really guilty. Because I actually stuck to our agreement, I didn’t get him (or the girls) anything. So, when he left to work at the local cafe, I got busy.
I cleaned everyone’s room. I straightened all the beds, tucking in the corners and such. I did everyone’s chores. I even took out the trash - all the way down the half mile driveway in snow up to my calves!! (Good grief, ya gotta love living in Michigan.) I wrote everyone a little love note on heart shaped paper doilies and tucked them under their pillows.
But, when it came to figuring out a special dinner, I was really at a loss. It’s really difficult to pick one thing that everyone will be happy with. Between Z-DOW being a finicky teen and Aspie girl being . . . well Aspie, it’s just darn near impossible to please everyone. So, I decided to make a little something for everyone. It was an eclectic meal that included catfish for Hubby, Macaroni and Cheese for Aspie Girl, Chocolate Tarts for Babs, and these muffins for Z-DOW.
Z-DOW loves muffins of all sorts. Lemon poppy seed, strawberry rhubarb, chocolate-chocolate chip, banana walnut, oatmeal raisin . . . you name it, she loves it. Still, as traditional as they are, her most favorit-ist muffins are those of the blueberry variety.
I was so excited when I found a recipe in my Southern Living magazine that took a basic blueberry muffin mix and jazzed it up. They were very easy, and sounded delightful. According to Z-DOW, the muffin connoisseur, these were tops. Honestly, I can’t comment on the way these tasted because I am allergic to blueberries. Actually, I’m allergic to ALL berries. No strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cranberries, boysenberries, mulberries, I’m telling you, it sucks. However, I think you’ll be safe if you take Z-DOW’s word on these muffins.

Great recipe, Ang! Can I use frozen blueberries instead of dried? If not, where do I get dried blueberries?
*AmyL – I was able to find a large display of dried fruits of all sorts at the local supermarket. It was in the produce department. I do think frozen berries would work fine here, too, just be careful not to stir too much – or you end up with blue muffins!!
You’re gonna laugh but since we met we play this game for birthdays: getting as many cards as humanly possible for each other. They have to be relevant to the other person(name, pets, foods, sports we prefer and others). He won last year with 21. My “sentence”…to call him “Big Daddy” in public while at dinner. I am glad you had such a great Valentine’s day. The muffins are next on my list!
Thank you for your help, buddy!
